Opr. Dr. Erol Havuz

Dr. Erol Havuz was born in 1970. After completing his primary and secondary education in Van, he enrolled in Istanbul Technical University Faculty of Mines in 1986. A year later, he entered Atatürk University Faculty of Medicine.

Preparing for the university entrance exam, he was admitted to Ankara University Faculty of Medicine and graduated with honors. After completing his medical degree, he ranked 24th in the Medical Specialty Exam (TUS) in Turkey and started working as an assistant at the Department of Ophthalmology, 19 May University Faculty of Medicine in 1994. During his years of specialization, he passed the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) with high scores.

After completing his specialization training, he served in Fatsa State Hospital from 1999 to 2002 as part of his mandatory service. In 2003, he observed in Texas, Houston, United States.

In 2003, he started working as an ophthalmologist at Samsun Mehmet Aydın State Hospital. After receiving training in vitreoretinal surgery at Gazi University Eye Clinic for a period of 5 months in 2004, he established the vitreoretinal surgery unit at Samsun Mehmet Aydın State Hospital. Thus, vitreoretinal surgery started to be performed for the first time in a state hospital. From 2009 to 2014, he worked at Özel Eksen Göz Merkezi, and from 2014 to 2018, he worked at Samsun Medicana Hospital.

Since August 2018, he has been working as a faculty member at Sağlık Bilimleri University Faculty of Medicine. He has received training on smart lenses, vitreoretinal surgery, and macular degeneration, primarily at The Institute of Ocular Microsurgery (IMO) in Barcelona, as well as in Germany, Vienna, Florence, and Lisbon.
