The Role of the Quadratus Lumborum Muscle in Low Back Pain

Low back pain is a common health problem seen across all age groups today and significantly affects quality of life. In our clinical experience, we observe that low back pain is not attributable to a single cause; rather, it is most often a multifactorial condition related to the musculoskeletal system, postural habits, and daily mechanical loads. In this process, one of the muscles that is frequently overlooked yet plays a critical role in lumbar stability and movement control is the quadratus lumborum (QL) muscle.

Brace Use in Scoliosis

Scoliosis is most commonly seen in the form of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. In addition, congenital, neuromuscular, syndromic, and degenerative types of scoliosis are also encountered in clinical practice. Particularly in individuals with remaining growth potential, the risk of curve progression is the main factor guiding treatment decisions.

Post-Workout Nutrition for Replenishing and Resting Muscles

For us dietitians, post-workout nutrition is not limited merely to “what we eat”; it is directly related to the repair of muscle tissue, the replenishment of energy stores, the sustainability of performance, and the reduction of injury risk. During exercise, microscopic damage occurs in muscle fibers, energy stores are depleted, and the body experiences fluid and mineral losses. Therefore, the correct nutritional approach after exercise plays a decisive role in turning training into real physiological benefit.

The Role of the Iliopsoas Muscle in Low Back Pain

Low back pain is one of the most common health problems encountered today, both clinically and socially. Although the etiology of low back pain is often multifactorial, the condition of specific muscle groups within the musculoskeletal system (particularly the iliopsoas muscle) plays a critical role in spinal health. When evaluating our patients and developing treatment plans, we meticulously consider the anatomical and functional characteristics of the iliopsoas muscle.

How Reliable Is The Internet In Healthy Nutrition?

For us dietitians, healthy nutrition is a process that must be based on scientific evidence and planned individually. However, in the digital age, access to information about nutrition has become easier than ever. Websites, social media platforms, blogs, and video content offer countless recommendations related to nutrition. At this point, our fundamental question is this: How reliable is the nutrition information available on the internet?

Gut Microorganisms and Nutrition

For us dietitians, gut microorganisms are not merely a part of the digestive process; they represent a highly complex and dynamic ecosystem that is directly related to the immune system, metabolic balance, hormonal regulation, and even mental health. Current reviews emphasize that the trillions of microorganisms living in the human gut should be discussed not only in terms of their numerical presence, but also in terms of their functional capacity. This community of microorganisms is referred to as the gut microbiota, and a healthy microbiota plays a central role in maintaining overall health.

The Importance of Calcium Absorption: Milk or Yogurt?

Calcium is one of the most abundant minerals in our bodies and is vital for our health. It plays a role in numerous physiological processes, from bone and dental health to nerve transmission, muscle contraction, and blood clotting. However, ensuring adequate calcium intake is not enough; effective absorption by the body is equally essential. At this point, it’s crucial to focus on foods that provide optimal calcium absorption. Milk and yogurt are two primary dairy products rich in calcium and widely consumed. But which one is superior in terms of calcium absorption? In this article, I will examine the importance of calcium and the best source for its optimal absorption from a dietitian's perspective.

Did You Know What SIBO Is?

SIBO, or Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth, is a common condition in the digestive system that, if left untreated, can significantly reduce the quality of life. As a dietitian, I frequently emphasize that nutrition plays a crucial role in treating SIBO. SIBO occurs when bacteria that are either not supposed to be present or are normally present in small numbers in the small intestine, grow excessively in this region. This can lead to symptoms like bloating, gas, abdominal pain, diarrhea, or constipation.

For a Healthy Life: Probiotics

Probiotics are beneficial microorganisms, including bacteria and yeast, that contribute to human health. They are commonly used to improve gut flora, support the digestive system, and strengthen the immune system. Probiotics, often referred to as "good bacteria," consist of live microorganisms that can be found in various areas of the body.

Insulin Resistance and Nutrition

In order to convert the glucose you consume throughout the day into energy, the hormone insulin is necessary. Insulin resistance occurs when there is a reduced sensitivity to insulin in areas such as the liver, fat, and muscle tissue, leading to an inability of blood sugar to be converted into energy, resulting in elevated blood sugar levels. High sugar levels can eventually lead to metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.

Nutrition Lunchbox Recipes For School-Aged Children

For us dietitians, children’s lunchboxes are not merely a solution to curb hunger during school hours; they represent a very important area of nutrition that directly affects growth, development, learning, and the immune system. Eating habits acquired during childhood form the foundation of behaviors that last a lifetime. Therefore, when planning lunchboxes, it is of great importance to consider both nutrient balance and suitability for the child’s age, taste preferences, and daily needs.

There Is a Cure for Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a common joint disease that significantly affects the quality of life, especially in individuals aged 50 and above. It leads to joint pain, limited mobility, and, over time, muscle atrophy. Today, apart from surgical interventions, there are numerous conservative and minimally invasive treatment options available for knee osteoarthritis. Among these, intra-articular (joint fluid) therapies play a leading role.

Mommy Makeover: Supporting Women on Their Postpartum Journey

As Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery specialists, we define one of the most meaningful areas of our profession as the “mommy makeover.” Motherhood leaves profound marks on a woman’s body—not only physiologically, but also emotionally and aesthetically. While we recognize that this process is both natural and valuable, we also know that pregnancy and breastfeeding may sometimes bring about changes that make it difficult for women to feel at peace with their bodies.
