Prof. Dr. Hasan Fevzi Batırel

He was born in 1970 in Istanbul. He graduated from Kadıköy Anatolian High School in 1988 and from Marmara University Faculty of Medicine in 1994. Between 1994-1999, he specialized in Thoracic Surgery at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine. During his residency, he worked in the laboratory of Dr. Mehmet C.Öz at Columbia Presbytarian Medical Center, New York for 6 months starting from September 1997.

After his residency, he worked as a clinical senior physician under the supervision of Dr.David J. Sugarbaker and Dr.Scott J. Swanson at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston between 1999-2001. She received training in videothoracoscopic and laparoscopic surgery, esophageal (anti-reflux and cancer) and mesothelioma surgery. She became Associate Professor in 2005 and Professor in 2010. She is still working at Marmara University Thoracic Surgery Department and Memorial Health Group.

She was the first thoracic surgeon to be accepted as a member of the American Society of Thoracic Surgery. She is currently the Education Director of the European Society of Thoracic Surgery.
