The mitral valve, which is the valve whose function is important in the heart organ, may not fulfill its function due to genetic transfers or congenital reasons, or as a result of rheumatic heart disease, heart inflammation and heart attack. So, how does mitral valve insufficiency manifest?

What is the Function of the Mitral Valve in the Heart Organ?

The mitral valve, located between the left atrium and the right ventricle of the heart organ, is cleaned from the lungs and allows the incoming blood to pass to the last ventricle. The ventricle also contracts and spreads this clean blood to the whole body through the aorta. The workload on the heart is the most common, the heaviest is the valve.

What are the Causes of Mitral Valve Insufficiency?

The prolapse of the mitral valve in the left atrium, that is, the medical name, the prolapse degenerative valve has the feature of familial transmission. It is frequently seen in women, and the collagen production that gives this strength function to the ligaments of this valve is defective. Depending on this, extensions or ruptures occur in the ligaments and valves.

90% of this disease is curable. In addition, rheumatic heart disease is one of the other factors that cause mitral valve insufficiency in congenital causes with heart inflammation or heart attacks.

What Symptoms Occur?

In the initial stage of this disease, no symptoms occur. As the disease progresses, bulgur develops gradually. At this stage, there will be a certain decrease in the amount of blood pumped by the heart to the body. The heart will work harder and beat faster to compensate for this decrease. This will cause the heart to tire. Findings may occur during work or exercise in the early stages, as well as when resting as the disease progresses. If the severity of the shortness of breath increases during fatigue, fatigue, exercise, palpitation or if heart failure is accompanied, symptoms such as shortness of breath in the lying position and waking up with oxygen deficiency at night may occur.

Mitral Valve Insufficiency Treatment

The patient's own valve repair is the most appropriate method to be accepted in the world. Among the advantages of mitral valve regurgitation repair compared to replacement are methods such as generally better early or late periods of life expectancy or providing a quality life, good protection of heart functions, less risk of infection and paralysis and no need for the use of anticoagulants, mitral valve regurgitations are the main applications applied in the treatment of valve insufficiency.
