Choosing the best bottle for your newborn can be a difficult process. You have to make the right decision among different bottle shapes, sizes, materials. So, what should you pay attention to when choosing a bottle?

Baby-bottle Nipple

Baby-bottle nipples are produced in various levels for different flow rates. The slowest flow nipples are for newborns and are often referred to as level one. When your baby is ready for the next level of flow, you should switch to bottle number two. If your baby is sucking quickly and seems nervous while feeding, he may not like the bottle flow. Therefore, you can choose a bottle cap according to your baby's condition. However, you should remember that you should also replace the nipples when they become frayed, yellowed or discolored.

The material structure of the baby-bottle nipple is also very important. They are divided into two groups: silicone and rubber. Silicone is tough and durable, while the rubber nipple, known as latex, is a little softer. Although the rubber nipples that offer the feeling of a mother's breast appeal to most babies, they can cause allergies in some babies.

Bottle Shape

Some bottles are straight, while others are angled or wide. Angled bottles prevent the baby from swallowing air. Wide bottles are easier to clean. However, wide bottles may be more ideal for the baby as they mimic the mother's breast.

Bottle Material

Baby bottles are produced from different materials such as plastic, glass, silicone and stainless steel. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

  • Plastic baby bottles are unbreakable and lightweight. They need to be changed more often than other types of bottles. BPA-free plastic baby bottles are considered safe today. Because these products are designed with the health and safety of babies in mind. But when exposed to heat, they become unsuitable for health.
  • Glass feeding bottles promise a durable and long-lasting use. Some parents love glass bottles for their durability, but they are also heavier, more expensive, and breakable. You can buy silicone sleeves that can prevent the glass bottle from breaking if dropped.
  • Silicone baby bottles are lightweight, flexible and BPA-free. These types of baby bottles can be difficult to find and can be offered for sale at higher prices than other products.
  • Although stainless steel baby bottles are durable and do not contain any toxins, they come with a high price tag. Another disadvantage is that you cannot see the inside of a stainless steel bottle. Therefore, it will be a little more difficult to understand how much milk your baby consumes with a stainless steel bottle.
