Upper Respiratory Tract Infection Weakens Body Resistance

Upper respiratory tract infection diseases are a disease that increases with the cold weather, especially in the winter months. Upper respiratory tract infection is mostly transmitted in closed, crowded and poorly ventilated environments. With a sudden decrease in body resistance and weakening of the immune system, the risk of getting upper respiratory tract infections increases during the transition periods. These infectious diseases affect people's social life negatively, reduce their quality of life, and make them feel exhausted and tired all the time, weakening the body's resistance. Although some people can overcome these diseases mildly and on foot, in some people it is extremely difficult and severe.

 

Fruits and Vegetables Should Be Consumed Against Upper Respiratory Tract Infections

Adequate fluid intake is particularly important during any respiratory infection. That's because fluid consumption helps thin the mucus, making it easier to breathe. It is important to consume at least 2 - 2.5 liters of water per day. Taking vitamins A, C and E, which are important antioxidants, should not be neglected. Antioxidants are substances that help protect lung tissue from free radicals and cellular damage. During the winter season, it would be appropriate to increase the consumption of the fruits and vegetables listed below during this period;

  • Courgette
  • Broccoli
  • Carrot
  • Capia pepper
  • Cauliflower
  • Parsley
  • Orange
  • Mandarin

It is important for our health to consume 1-2 portions of fruit and 3-4 portions of vegetables every day, in accordance with the season.

 

Herbal Teas Should Be Preferred Against Upper Respiratory Tract Infections

By reducing the amount of black tea we consume, drinking herbal teas such as green tea, sage, rosehip and linden in moderation instead, strengthens the immune system thanks to the antioxidants they contain.

  • Green Tea: Thanks to the antioxidant components it contains, it is one of the most protective herbal teas against upper respiratory tract infections. Regular consumption of green tea also improves brain functions, protects against many types of cancer and reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
  • Sage: Sage is a natural antibiotic, thanks to its compositions and the active oil, 'cineol'. Thanks to this feature, sage, which has a protective effect against tonsil and throat infections, is also good for cough. Thanks to the 'catechin' it contains, sage, which also has an antioxidant effect, is a healing plant that strengthens the immune system.
  • Rosehip: Rosehip is an important immune supporter for colds and flu with its high vitamin C (ascorbic acid) content.
  • Linden: Like other herbal teas, linden has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties with the polyphenolic compounds it contains and helps to relax the respiratory tract.

 

Fruits and Vegetables That Protect Against Respiratory Infections

  • Ginger: Ginger, which is a root plant rich in nutritional value, strengthens immunity thanks to the naturally contained “gingerol” substance
  • Kiwi: Effective against respiratory tract infections such as flu and cold, kiwi is a very rich food in terms of vitamins A, E, K and calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and potassium, as well as the abundant vitamin C it contains. Kiwi is also known to have an effect on preventing asthma attacks that increase in winter.
  • Pomegranate: Pomegranate, which strengthens the immune system thanks to the component called 'anthocyanin' in its content, is an effective food for protection against flu.
