It can occur in any age group. It is normal to be seen intermittently in the first 3 months of infancy. What are the Causes of Eye Twitching (Nystagmus)?

The exact causes of eye twitching (nystagmus) are not known. It is caused during difficult pregnancy in infancy or due to hereditary reasons. If it is encountered in early childhood, it is thought that neurological problems are triggered in the patient. In different age groups, it can be caused by the side effects of diseases in our body. Cataract, eye pressure (glaucoma), albunism, retina and central nervous system diseases are in the symptom class. It can also be caused by environmental factors. People who consume excessive alcohol and harmful substances are in the risk group. It can occur in the side effects of drugs used in the treatment of diseases. If it occurs due to your medication use, you should consult your doctor again. You should adjust the dose of the drug well and use it regularly again.

How is Eye Twitching Treatment Performed?

Eye twitching is definitely seen in 1 out of every 1000 people. The diagnosis of the disease should be made by specialist doctors. The movements of the eyes are controlled while looking straight or as they prefer to look. Near vision rate and eye number are examined. The definitive diagnosis is that the patient tries to look sideways by keeping his head in the desired position. The treatment process is planned by following the variability. The types of surgery vary according to the severity of twitching. Minor interventions are applied when you are unable to read, drive, and perform intimate activities. Slight outward rotation surgery is applied to bring the trembling eye to its normal position. As a result of the surgery, the patient keeps his eyes in the most comfortable position. By reducing twitching, the quality of life of the person is improved. In the more advanced stages of the disease, Kestenbaum / Anderson surgery is applied. In this way, the problem of involuntary movements, which is usually seen in both eyes, is resolved. With surgical intervention, the muscles should be strengthened by regressing. It is often recommended for the treatment of patients who have a sense of depth and experience twitching in both eyes. Surgery usually takes between 1-1.5 hours. Local and general anesthesia can be applied.
