Thyroidectomy indications; thyroid cancer, toxic adenoma, toxic goiter, hyperthyroidism, basedow graves’ disease, toxic solitary goiter, nodular goiter.
The surgical operation to be performed as a result of goiter types or disorders related to the thyroid gland is called thyroidectomy. During the thyroidectomy procedure, the masses on the right and left thyroid glands are removed and the area is cleaned. The process of removing the thyroid gland on both sides is called total thyroidectomy. If the mass is located on only one side, it is sufficient to remove only the thyroid gland on one side. This procedure is called subtotal thyroidectomy.
When the patient has a total thyroidectomy, he has to use thyroid drugs regularly and continuously. Because there is no thyroid gland, it does not secrete hormones, so it provides the balance of the body with drugs. In surgical operations, if conditions allow, subtotal thyroidectomy is preferred and some thyroid glands and parathyroid glands are tried to be left. Since the removal of these glands will pose a risk throughout the patient's future life, primarily medical treatments are preferred. If medical treatments do not respond, radioactive iodine etc. side treatments are preferred. If there is no efficiency from this, and if the results of a malignant tumor are found in the part taken by biopsy and sent to pathology, the only procedure to be done seems to be thyroidectomy. Due to the geographical structure of Turkey, thyroid-related diseases are quite common. Therefore, if these ailments do not complicate the patient's life, hardly any intervention is made. However, in cases where the developing nodules are malignant or the nodule gradually grows and changes its direction by pushing the trachea, it turns into a surgical operation that must be taken.
In cysts or nodules that recur regularly, 4 cm. It is applied in cases where it is larger than it is frequently used in goiter, Graves' and thyroid cancers. Since it includes micro-surgical procedures, there is no hoarseness or persistent coughing as a result of operations performed with detailed imaging methods. The situation of being made from the neck region can sometimes change the location and size of the incision due to the displacement of the mass or its downward growth. These dimensions are determined by the structure and location of the tumorous mass. Afterwards, with the medical treatment given to the patient, the patient recovers in a short time.
