  • What is Breast Cancer?

It is a type of cancer that mostly occurs in women but can also occur in men. Breast cancer is a very important type of cancer. The main reason for this is both the increased incidence and the decreasing age of cancerous tissue. The most important reason for the increase in the incidence of breast cancer all over the world is the role of environmental factors. Nutritional factor, environmental factors, genetic factors and exposure to certain chemical conditions have been the main factors that increase the risk of breast cancer.

The ultrasound system can be applied to all age groups. Because ultrasound is an inexpensive method and patients do not receive radiation, there is no age restriction in this application. Ultrasound imaging is a very common diagnostic method in patients with breast pain or a palpable mass. While ultrasound applications are performed under the age of 40, the limit for mammography techniques is drawn over the age of 40. As of the age of 40, mammography is applied to patients once a year as breast cancer control. The reason for the age limit for this procedure is that, based on statistical data, the risk of breast cancer has increased too much after the age of 40. The reason for the decrease in the age of breast cancer to young ages can be shown as an example of the radiation situations that we have reed with the developing technology.

Breast cancer findings are the conditions found under ultrasound guidance. The main complaint is the presence of a non-displaced and adherent mass on the patient's hand during palpation. Patients also come with complaints of pain in the chest. There are easy methods to understand whether the mass is cancerous or not, by taking a breast biopsy from this mass, which is noticed on ultrasound. A sample is taken from the mass in the patient's breast with fine-tipped needle biopsy. Local anesthesia is used in the application. Fine-tipped needle biopsy is primarily used when taking a biopsy. Afterwards, a tissue sample is taken with a thick-tipped biopsy. In cases other than diagnosis, the very small lesions seen on ultrasound cannot be palpated during the examination. Wire marking method is also used during biopsy for these lesions. This situation is beneficial to the surgeon during the surgical intervention.
