Vaginoplasty

The vagina can become saggy and loose due to factors like difficult childbirth, aging, and rapid, significant weight loss. Although not commonly discussed among couples, this condition can lead to issues during sexual intercourse such as a feeling of looseness, reduced pleasure, and even sexual disinterest. However, there is a solution available for this problem, and its results can bring considerable satisfaction to couples.

Vaginal sagging can lead to sexual problems related to vaginal width, especially at a young age, and aesthetic issues due to inadequate healing of episiotomy stitches. Furthermore, in older age, it can result in issues like bladder prolapse, urinary incontinence, uterine and bowel prolapse, and difficulty during defecation.

With all these reasons in mind, we aim to improve the quality of life by addressing women's sexual and physical issues through vaginoplasty surgery.

Before moving on to the question-and-answer section about vaginoplasty, let's briefly touch upon the situations in which vaginoplasty is significant:

Why is Vaginoplasty Important?

  • Medical Reasons: Some women may experience deformities in the genital area due to congenital anomalies or trauma resulting in basic health problems such as urination or sexual dysfunction.
  • Congenital Anomalies: Certain congenital genital anomalies can adversely affect daily activities like normal urination or sexual activity. Vaginoplasty helps correct such conditions.
  • Aesthetic Preferences: Some women might not be satisfied with the aesthetics of their genital area or feel discomfort. Vaginoplasty is an option for individuals who wish to change the appearance and shape of the genital region for aesthetic purposes.
  • Vaginal Rehabilitation: Post-childbirth or during the aging process, vaginal tissues can become loose or weakened. This can lead to problems such as urinary incontinence and reduced sexual function. Vaginoplasty is used to tighten and strengthen vaginal tissues.
  • Sexual Satisfaction and Relationships: Some women may experience difficulties in sexual satisfaction or sexual experiences. Vaginoplasty can be effective in increasing sexual satisfaction and providing comfort during sexual intercourse.
  • Sexual Identity and Expression: Sexuality and sexual identity are complex and personal matters. Some women might experience a lack of confidence related to their genital area, which can impact their sexual identity and expression. Vaginoplasty might be considered to reduce such emotional and psychological effects.

Surgical procedures like vaginoplasty, whether for aesthetic or medical reasons, vary for each individual and should be evaluated based on individual needs, preferences, and health conditions.

Now, let's move on to the question-and-answer section regarding vaginoplasty:

Questions and Answers About Vaginoplasty

Why is vaginoplasty performed?

Vaginoplasty surgery is performed to address issues such as lack of sexual pleasure, discomfort from vaginal laxity, bladder prolapse, inadequate healing of episiotomy stitches, and an open vaginal entrance.

How is vaginoplasty surgery performed, and how long does it take?

Vaginoplasty surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia based on the patient's preference. The duration of the surgery varies depending on the extent of the problem, but it typically takes around 1 hour on average. During the procedure, not only the vaginal entrance but the entire vagina is tightened to ideal dimensions. Correcting bladder and bowel prolapses, if present, is also part of the surgery.

I haven't given birth, but I feel looseness during intercourse. Can I have the surgery?

Absolutely, vaginoplasty surgery is not limited to women who have given birth. In some cases, an individual's own anatomical features or vaginal laxity due to weight loss can cause a feeling of looseness.

Do I need to remove stitches, and will there be a scar?

We use self-absorbing stitches, so there is no need to remove them, and there is usually no noticeable scar.

Is the surgery very painful? Do I need to take time off work?

Since most of the stitches are placed inside the vagina, there is generally only a mild discomfort. Many of our patients are able to return to their daily activities without taking time off work.

What are the risks of vaginoplasty surgery?

Like any surgery, vaginoplasty carries risks such as bleeding and infection. Additionally, over-tightening the vagina can lead to difficulties in comfortable sexual intercourse and pain. However, when performed by an experienced surgeon, these risks are minimized.

What precautions should I take after vaginoplasty surgery?

You should take prescribed medications regularly, follow your doctor's instructions for dressing changes, and avoid sexual intercourse for about 1.5 months after the surgery. Swimming in the sea or pools is also not recommended for about 1 month after the surgery.
