The tissue surrounding the inner lining of the uterus is called the endometrium. The endometrial tissue, which is prepared to allow pregnancy to occur and sheds with bleeding in case of failure to conceive, sometimes forms in a region other than the uterus. This condition is called 'endometriosis'.

What Are the Symptoms of Endometriosis?

Endometriosis is popularly known as a chocolate cyst. The most common symptoms in people with this disease are dysmenorrhea, pain during sexual intercourse, painful menstrual periods and infertility. Pain that increases over time from the beginning of menstruation is a warning for the formation of endometriosis.

What are the Causes of Endometriosis?

The causes of endometriosis disease are not yet known. However, there are some theories put forward to explain the causes. According to the most accepted one among these theories; In women with a genetic predisposition, endometriosis occurs due to the structural changes of the cells in the surfaces or tissues in the abdomen.

How Is Endometriosis Treated?

The most well-known method in the treatment of endometriosis is the removal of chocolate cysts from the area where they form, thanks to a surgical operation. Usually, after cysts removed using the laparoscopy method, pregnancy occurs in as many as 50 percent of patients without any treatment.
