Baby acne is also known as newborn acne. This skin problem is more common especially in newborn babies. It is not possible to prevent, but it does not show any complications. So, how does this skin problem go away?

What is Baby Acne?

Baby acne is a common skin condition that affects more than one in five healthy newborns. It usually appears as small bumps on the baby's forehead, cheeks, eyelids and chin at two weeks of age. This condition should be distinguished from acne, which is less common and appears between the ages of two and twelve months. Baby acne is very common. It affects more than 20% of healthy newborn babies.

What Causes Baby Acne?

Baby pimples look like small red or white patches that may be surrounded by red skin. These pimples usually appear on your baby's face, especially on their cheeks, nose or forehead. Although it may seem like acne that teenagers and adults can experience, baby acne does not cause blackheads or whiteheads. Although the cause of newborn acne is unknown, it is thought to be an inflammatory reaction to yeast on the skin. It's not really a type of acne.

What Symptoms Does Baby Acne Show?

Small bumps occur on the face and may spread to the scalp. Less frequently, these lesions may also appear on the neck and upper trunk. As with real acne, it is not likely to turn into black or white dots.

How Is Baby Acne Diagnosed?

Baby acne typically goes away in the first three months of life without medical treatment. When treatment is necessary, an antifungal cream such as ketoconazole or a low-potency topical steroid such as hydrocortisone may be prescribed. This is entirely up to your doctor to decide.

Can Baby Acne Be Prevented?

There is no way to prevent baby acne. In order to get rid of this skin problem, you should pay attention to your baby's skin care and follow your doctor's recommendations exactly.

What to Do to Get Rid of Baby Acne?

Baby acne has no cure, but don't worry. It usually goes away on its own within a few weeks or months and leaves no marks on your child's face. You should not choose acne treatments or medications for older children or adults. The best way to take care of your baby's skin and help baby acne breakouts is to wash the affected areas of your baby's face with water and a mild soap. You can apply this while bathing your baby. Even if you do not want to give your newborn a bath yet, it will be sufficient to clean your baby's face and diaper area.
