What are the Diseases Caused by Gluten?

The gluten substance, which is included in many of the foods consumed during the day, does not show the same reaction in every body it enters. Since it causes an allergenic effect in some people, it leads to deterioration of the daily quality of life of people. There are many diseases caused by gluten substance. Among these diseases, the most common types of diseases are; wheat allergy, gluten sensitivity and celiac disease. Since the side effects of each disease and the degree of impact on the human body are different, the person should first see a physician if he/she sees any symptoms. Otherwise, since the most accurate solutions are not produced for the symptoms, the problems of the person may not improve, but many more problems may arise.

Wheat Allergy

Wheat allergy, one of the most common allergen reactions, occurs with the body's reaction against wheat protein in the foods taken into the body. Since wheat protein is used to produce many foods today, the nutritional type of individuals with wheat allergy is very important. Allergy effects can be minimized by choosing suitable foods under the control of a physician and then with the nutrition method given by a specialist dietitian. If the body of a person with wheat allergy encounters wheat protein, important symptoms occur in the body. These:

  • Itching
  • Pale skin
  • Shortness of breath

Gluten Sensitivity

This disease, which is caused by the intake of gluten into the body, occurs in a short time after the consumption of gluten-containing foods. It is similar to celiac disease, but gluten sensitivity does not cause any damage to the small intestine. People with gluten sensitivity face certain physical symptoms when they consume gluten-containing foods. These:

  • Indigestion
  • Bloating in the body
  • State of fatigue
  • Stomach ache
  • Itching

Since these symptoms may be common in other diseases caused by gluten, the person who has any of these symptoms should consult a physician to detect the disease. For the solution of gluten sensitivity, it is possible to minimize the symptoms if gluten-free foods are preferred. When purchasing gluten-free foods, attention should be paid to the 'Gluten-Free' statement on packaged foods.

Celiac Disease

Celiac disease, which causes the most severe symptoms among the diseases caused by gluten, is found in 1% of the population. This rare disease causes damage to the small intestine. This damage causes the absorption balance in the small intestine to deteriorate. Since this disease, which is caused by the continued consumption of gluten-containing foods during the day, significantly disrupts the digestive system, the daily quality of life of the person suffers. Some of the symptoms that occur with this disease are as follows:

  • Anorexia
  • Swelling in the abdomen
  • Muscle weakness
  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Anemia
  • Tiredness

Since celiac disease causes damage to the digestive system by causing damage to the small intestine, it is recommended that people who experience these symptoms first undergo a medical examination. Otherwise, much bigger problems may arise if the disease is not diagnosed and gluten-containing foods continue to be consumed.
