  • What is Parathyroid Cancer?

Parathyroid cancer is a rare case both in our country and in the world. This cancer case includes tumors that are caused by the patient's parathyroid gland producing excessive amounts of PTH hormone. Excessive production of parathyroid hormone causes disorders in the structure of tissues. These cancers consist of malignant tumors. they are not seen very often. When a mass finding occurs in the parathyroid gland, the malignancy status of this tissue does not exceed five percent. In these five percent of cases, the tumor does not threaten the patient's life. Due to the high levels of calcium in the blood, it is likely to damage the heart or other organs of the body. Patients may experience sudden heart spasm, heart attack or sudden cardiac arrest.

Tumors can be inconspicuously small in some cases. In some cases, they are displaced due to excessive growth or they can cause the displacement of organs. However, this is not the case in parathyroid cancers. 5 cm. They are the rarest cancer risks that do not exceed the size of the cancer. They are seen in the neck region. Due to their small size and being between the neck muscles, they can be difficult to detect in some cases. As it cannot be detected in manual examinations, it is definitely detected with auxiliary imaging techniques.

Parathyroid cancer is mostly located on one parathyroid gland. Removal of the parathyroid gland with cancer tissue is possible with a surgical operation. Since parathyroid cancer is not seen in our country, this situation is not suspected in most cases. Cases covering the 5% of the cases are mostly found in the USA.

It is a moderate type of cancer. It is formed on the parathyroid gland. As a result of removing this gland together with the mass, the possibility of spreading to other parts is eliminated. Hormone levels are also used when making the diagnosis. High calcium levels and increases in some hormones can facilitate diagnosis. It is a condition that should be suspected in patients with a calcium level above 14. However, the diagnosis of parathyroid cancer over every 14 is not correct. It is always a risk for high amounts of calcium to enter the blood. Routine control of patients with parathyroid cancer every year after the surgical operation is sufficient to prevent the recurrence of this disease. Regular checkups save lives, just as early detection saves lives.
