How Do We Treat Vaginismus?

  • How Do We Treat Vaginismus?

Vaginismus treatment is a three-stage process consisting of a program of 1 to 3 sessions. While the treatment process can be completed in a short time in some patients, sometimes additional sessions may be needed. This treatment program includes cognitive therapy and behavioral therapy to inform the patient with various trance techniques and to relieve contractions.

The aim of the treatment is to give the patient self-confidence, to relieve the contractions, to relax the mind and body, to control the body. The shortness of the treatment period is provided by the desensitization of the muscle group, which is the main effect of vaginismus. The main problem in vaginismus is not the contraction of the vagina, but the emergence of fear, anxiety and automatic self-defense mechanism. This is why other treatments usually take longer.

One of the most frequently asked questions by our patients is "What happens if I fail in 1-3 sessions?" is in the form. We will continue to support you and continue your treatment throughout the treatment process. Since the treatment process is based on learning, it will provide a permanent treatment and we will always be with you in any problem. You don't have to worry about it, you can contact us at any time.

In traditional treatments, some patients may stop the treatment or complete their homework due to the long duration of the treatment. However, in my treatment, exercises are done by me to find solutions to all problems. As relaxation techniques are used, exercises can be done easily as the muscles and mind relax.

Since our treatment is problem-focused, it is my preference to get to know you in advance and offer personalized treatment. Success is achieved quickly by solving problems step by step. Sometimes problems stem from past traumas. In such cases, a good evaluation of the past may be necessary for the treatment to be successful, but it is not always necessary to focus on the past. For this reason, we have patients who can easily find solutions with relaxation, cognitive and behavioral therapies. Background assessment is the preferred method in more severe cases.

Dilator studies are carried out by me and the patients gain a sense of confidence with the exercises performed under the guidance of a gynecologist. I do not give homework, I do not give tasks such as dilator exercises, finger exercises.

The purpose of dilator studies is to determine progress with one hour of treatment. Dilator studies are important in terms of allowing something to enter, tolerating the increase in diameter, and for the patient to understand that there is no problem with the vagina. Vagina-related determinations are already made by me before the treatment and you should be able to see this visually with dilator studies.

While dilator and finger exercises take days, weeks or months in other treatments, this period can be completed in a few hours in our treatment. This is made possible by the relaxation techniques we use. Learning and expansion work becomes easier when the mind and body are relaxed. Our biggest difference compared to other treatments is that the treatment period is shorter and easier.

Our treatment encompasses an organized and cascading treatment process that includes many techniques. Which steps we will take may vary depending on the personality of the patient and the size of the problem.
